(Scene: April 25, 2007, Aidan Keller and Stephanie Mosley have been boyfriend and girlfriend ever since they were juniors. As they were walking home from school, along a sidewalk near some creepy-looking woods, they were discussing about their senior prom and other things. Later in the discussion, they brought up this mysterious house called The Black House. Residents claims the Black House to be haunted, while others say it's just a deserted house)
AIDAN
(holding Stephanie's hand)
(Anticipated) I can't believe our senior prom is just around the corner!
STEPHANIE
(Ecstatic) I can't believe it either! Our senior prom is going to be the time of our lives!
I've been looking forward to this day since freshman year!
AIDAN
(Giving her a quick sideways glance)
Doesn't everybody?
STEPHANIE
I guess so........
AIDAN
(Looking at Stephanie) So, what does your dress look like, Steph?
STEPHANIE
(Looking back at Aidan) Well, the length of my dress goes all the way to the ground.
There are little beads on every part of the dress and the color's champagne.
AIDAN
Sounds like a nice dress.
STEPHANIE
It is, and when I first tried it on, my mom said it looked gorgeous with my blond hair.
AIDAN
You're gorgeous, Steph, no matter what you wear.
STEPHANIE
(Sighing merrily) Thank you, Aidan. (After she said that, Stephanie and Aidan kissed each
other, then continued walking)
AIDAN
Hey, uh, Steph, let's talk about our after party for a minute.
STEPHANIE
Okay.
AIDAN
It's going to take place at your house, right?
(Stephanie nodded)
AIDAN
So, have you planned out any agenda for the party?
STEPHANIE
Actually, you can do whatever you want. After all, my parents are gone for the whole
weekend. I have all sorts of things we can do. Swim in my pool, watch movies in our theatre room, play video games, you name it.
AIDAN
Video games?!? Steph, I didn't even know you had video games!
STEPHANIE
(Smiling angelically) You didn't ask.
AIDAN
I didn't mean for it to sound that way. It's just; you don't seem like the video game person.
STEPHANIE
It's okay, Aidan. You didn't mean anything by it. But I play video games all the time.
AIDAN
(Nodding rapidly, a little glow in his eyes)
Really?!?
STEPHANIE
You don't believe me, do you?
AIDAN
No, I believe you. I can't picture you though.
STEPHANIE
(Giving him a sideways glance)
(Serious tone) Well, believe it.
(Aidan snickered. He's never heard Stephanie speak in a serious tone like that before)
AIDAN
And a swimming pool?! Nice!
STEPHANIE
Seems to me you don't have a pool at your house, Aidan.
(She's never been to Aidan's house before ever)
AIDAN
Aw, why would I need my own pool when my sweet girlfriend has one I can swim in?
(Stephanie smiles while giggling. But abruptly, her smile faded and her giggling didn't last long.
An apprehensive look grew upon her face. Her eyes grew wide with dismay. Stephanie's skin
was as white as snow. Aidan noticed)
AIDAN
(Grabbing her arm)
Stephanie? You okay? You look so pale.
(Stephanie didn't reply. She remained frozen, with that worried look on her face still)
STEPHANIE
(Hesitated).......................................(Then she smiled and began laughing) Wow! I can't believe
you fell for my concerned look! (She carried on laughing)
AIDAN
Alright, Steph, I admit I fell for your joke. But you made it seem so real though.
STEPHANIE
Well, I do take an acting class in school.
AIDAN
Why did you pull that joke on me anyway?
STEPHANIE
I just felt like joking with you before going to a special evening tomorrow night.
AIDAN
Oh, I see. You had to get it out of your system, don't you?
STEPHANIE
Exactly, Aidan..............You know, I'm astounded I haven't been to your house yet, after all this
time dating.
AIDAN
Oh, you don't want to see my house anyway. Mostly it's pretty cluttered and disorganized.
Besides, I'd prefer going out somewhere for our dates rather than chilling at one of our houses.
You remember our first date, Stephanie?
STEPHANIE
Of course I remember. You escorted me to a wonderful beach. I recall doing our first kiss underneath the moonlight during our first date. I'll never forget that.
AIDAN
Our first date sure was romantic.
(Stephanie only nodded, as if her mind was in a different world of its own)
STEPHANIE
(Petrified suddenly, changing the subject) Aidan.........I........I have a bad feeling about walking near these woods. I had this feeling of deja vu all of a sudden.
(Aidan and Stephanie resumed walking. As Stephanie was glancing over at the woods nearby, she suddenly recalls this one mysterious house. The same apprehensive look she had before grew on her face, but this time, she's solemn. Stephanie wrapped her arm around Aidan's waist to prevent from trembling)
AIDAN
(Wrapping his arm around her waist)
What's wrong?
STEPHANIE
(Frightened) ......I.......I just realized we are nearby this one house I hear others talking about. Residents claim it's haunted. Others say it's only haunted.
AIDAN
What about this house?
STEPHANIE
(Still frightened) Well, today in school, my friend, Donna, said she has seen that house before and knows about the history of it. Residents call the house the Black House because the house itself is black and since it's surrounded by a ton of trees, shadows cast upon it. Donna said 3 years ago----
AIDAN
(Cutting her off) Look, Steph, forget about the house right now.
STEPHANIE
(Ignoring Aidan, lowering her voice to a whisper) Donna said 3 years ago this family moved into the Black House. The mother and father had only one child. They had a son, and he was going to start high school, until one day his parents found him.........................dead!!! (Her voice became alarmed) Turns out one of the floorboards were loose in the house, on the third floor. The teenage boy walked on that floorboard, didn't know it was loose, and fell to his death! After the mom and dad attended their son's funeral, they fled the Black House and never came back. The house is now sealed up. Days later, teenage girls were disappearing! Some say they were kidnapped, others say the ghost of the boy who used to live in the Black House took them!
AIDAN
(Shocked) You think the Black House is really haunted?
STEPHANIE
That's what Donna said. She's read about it in the newspaper.
AIDAN
How do you know we are so close to the house?
STEPHANIE
Donna said it's somewhere near the woods right by our school and where are we?
(Motioned towards the woods)
AIDAN
Come on, Steph, that story your friend told you happened a long time ago. Besides, the house is deserted.
STEPHANIE
I don't care! Residents are still concerned about that house and so am I!
(Aidan pulled her close. As they continued their walk, the clouds were beginning to darken. Looks like a thunderstorm was on its way)
STEPHANIE
How do you even know the Black House is deserted?!?
(Aidan remained silent, Stephanie carried on)
STEPHANIE
(Petifried) Matter of fact, I've seen the Black House before....in person. Last year, I was taking my dog for a walk along this sidewalk and the Black House happened to be right beside us!! I was expecting the house to be deeper in the woods, but turns out, it's so close to the residential area! Back then, I knew nothing about the history of the Black House, because of curiosity, I approached it. But before I had the opportunity to ring the doorbell, I saw this boy staring down at me from the upstairs window. He looked so....eerie.....and his eyes were.......Oh! Cold-looking! Fear of what he was going to do, I turned around and ran away from the house. Never once have I gone back in those woods!
AIDAN
You........You actually saw someone inside the house?
STEPHANIE
Do I sound like I'm joking?!? Of course I saw him! I actually saw the boy who died in that house!
(Then her eyes focused the other direction, staring past Aidan. She hesitated)
AIDAN
Steph, what's the matter?
STEPHANIE
(Dramatically) What's the matter?! What's the matter?!? I'll tell you what the matter is! The Black House is right there! (She pointed towards the left side and Aidan followed her gaze. He saw it as well) Let's keep going! Seeing it there brings back last year's memory!
AIDAN
(Sighing) Cut the drama, okay? (He began heading towards the front door) Let's check it out!
STEPHANIE
(Dazed) Why?!?
(She could see there was no point in arguing, so she followed Aidan to the front door. The surroundings of the house is totally bathed in shadows, giving Stephanie the creeps)
STEPHANIE
(Her eyes grew wide with horror)
Aidan, I don't think this is such a good idea.
AIDAN
Haven't you been inside yet?
STEPHANIE
No, and I don't plan to.
AIDAN
(Grabbing her arm)
Come on! At least let's do some exploring.
(Aidan and Stephanie approached inside the house. The room was totally covered in shadows. Cobwebs hanged from the ceiling like streamers. Even the inside looks haunted. Stephanie hoped the boy who died doesn't become visible. They both explored the house. Each room was bathed in darkness. They both approached upstairs and reached the landing)
AIDAN
This isn't so bad, is it?
STEPHANIE
Whatever.
AIDAN
I can't believe we're actually inside a haunted house.
STEPHANIE
(Sarcastically) I'm very thrilled.
AIDAN
Calm down, will you, Stephanie? Your drama is getting on my nerves.
STEPHANIE
Sorry. (She didn't know what else to say) I can't believe I'm doing this.
AIDAN
Aw, come on, Stephanie! Where's your sense of adventure?
(He motioned to a room next to them) That room used to be the boy's room.
STEPHANIE
How do you know that, Aidan?
(Aidan didn't reply. Stephanie reluctantly explored the boy's room, for some stranger reason. Abruptly, she felt a churn of coldness in the room, as if a spirit's haunting her. She let out a shriek, turned and bolted out of the room, Aidan dashing after her)
AIDAN
(Facing her, gently grabbing her shoulders)
Whoa, Steph! What is it?
STEPHANIE
I thought I felt something..........I'm sorry, it only astonished me. It's nothing really.
AIDAN
Okay...............................Hey, let's check out the basement.
STEPHANIE
Alright. (She didn't feel like arguing)
(Holding hands, they went back downstairs. As soon as they reached the first floor, they approached this door they never revealed yet. Aidan smiled)
AIDAN
Aha! I bet this is where the basement is!
(He slowly opened the door. They made their way down the basement. Suddenly, she felt that cold swirl again, like how she felt upstairs. She couldn't help but let out a shriek. Stephanie ran upstairs with Aidan following her)
STEPHANIE
I just felt something again, something cold! I'm getting out of here!
(They both left Black House, Stephanie constantly repeating in her head, I will never set foot in that house again!)
AIDAN
Wow! Wasn't that something, visiting a real haunted house?
STEPHANIE
I agree...........Listen, Aidan, I'm going to head home on my own, I don't live far from here anyway.
AIDAN
Okay, Steph. Try not to consider about the house. Prom's this Saturday. We'll go as a couple and have an amusing time tomorrow.
STEPHANIE
Yeah, you're right, Aidan. Like you said, the story happened a long time ago. I'm just going to remove it from my mind and enjoy our senior prom.
(They kissed each other goodbye. As she went off the sidewalk, she headed towards the road, which leads to her neighborhood. As she was walking back home, she couldn't stop thinking how prom's this weekend and the after party. Abruptly, a police car approached her. A police officer stepped out. Stephanie was curious why a police car stopped right beside her)
STEPHANIE
Is there a problem, Officer?
(Thunder occurred, along with a flare of lightning)
POLICE OFFICER
Actually, I saw you on the sidewalk, near the Black House. Tell me, are you acquainted with anything about the Black House, including the family who previously lived there?
STEPHANIE
Yes.
POLICE OFFICER
I assume you don't know the name of the boy, who died in the Black House, do you?
STEPHANIE
I don't know his name, honestly.
POLICE OFFICER
(Lowered his voice to a cold whisper) His name is Aidan Keller.
